When you are taking care of an adult fulltime, your hands are tied. You have to schedule your errands, maybe needing to ask a friend or relative to pitch in for you. When you are holding a job, it is doubly difficult. Some caregivers resolve this problem by leaving their charge in a senior day care. Adult day care centers provide a respite to the caregiver while providing health services, therapeutic services, and social activities for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, chronic illnesses, traumatic brain injuries, developmental disabilities, and other problems that increase their care needs.
There are different kinds of adult day care. The first provides social activities, meals, recreation, and some health-related services. Others offer more intensive health, therapeutic and social services to individuals with more serious medical problems. A third type is disease-specific, like adult day care that services only patients with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. Whichever type will suit your need will be a big help in caring for elderly individuals under your care.
