Several illnesses in the elderly come in different forms. Some conditions may affect cognitive abilities or faculties to do sound decisions on their own. Thus, it is wise to draft an advanced medical directive along with your last will and testament. Medical directives are specific instructions that specify the kind of care a person wants in the event that he/she can no longer make decisions for him/herself.
A medical directive also includes:
~A list of people whom the signatory trusts to act as trustees
~Instructions such as whether to resuscitate or not in case of a cardiac arrest
~The kinds of major and minor surgeries allowed by the signatory
~Signatures of two medical attending physicians
