Sometimes, people hear things in silence. It could be a ringing, buzzing, or whistling sound. Some pay no attention to it, but others are annoyed to the point of seeking a doctor for treatment. This is tinnitus. The next question would be, what is tinnitus? Tinnitus is noise that originates from inside the ear instead of the outside environment. For some, it can be a short-term thing like when a person is standing nearby when a firecracker explodes. The unfortunate ones have a long-term condition and endure the non-stop ringing in their ears. There is no cure for tinnitus, but there are a lot of available treatments to relieve tinnitus.
There are several common types of tinnitus. Tonal tinnitus is commonly called “ringing in the ears”, where the ear produces a continuous sound like a single note playing non-stop. Pulsatile tinnitus sounds are described as intermittent, continuous, or pulsing to the beat of one’s heart. Some lesser forms of tinnitus have beeping sounds, much like Morse code. Other forms are described as several different sounds at the same time.
