For sale are dietary supplements that claim to boost the number of circulating stem cells in the body. One product is an algae extract. A stem cell enhancer promises to support stem cells in maintaining proper organ and tissue functioning in the body. Online testimonials claim a range of benefits including reducing hot flashes, heartburn and curing chronic back pain. Others claim to have been cured of knee pain and discomfort from kidney cysts.
Online testimonies may be saying a lot about the benefits of stem cell enhancers but there are certain quarters that question the safety of ingesting potentially toxic algae. One concern of treatment is the possible risk that transplanted stem cells could form tumors and have the possibility of becoming cancerous if cell division went out of control. There are also those who question the way the cells are obtained. It has spawned an ethical controversy torn between the potential source of life saving and enhancing therapies versus the methods of sourcing. There have already been advances in research and we can only hope that issues are resolved soon.
