Two Varieties of Cannabis

Industrial hemp is used for purposes such as manufacturing paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, fuel, and medicines. The plant is a soft, durable fiber that is legally cultivated for commercial use. For a crop, growing hemp is very environmentally-friendly as it requires few pesticides and herbicides.
There are two types of hemp or Cannabis sativa: there is the sub specie “sativa” which is the one for industrial use, and sup specie “indica” which has poor fiber quality and is mainly used for the production of recreational and medicinal drugs. The oilseed and fiber varieties of “sativa” produce only trace amounts of the psychoactive drug that is not enough to give physical and psychological effects unlike “indica” which is grown for marijuana.
