The symptoms of high blood pressure are easy to identify. Headache, dizziness, shortness of breath and blurred vision are commonly associated with high blood pressure. When these symptoms are present, high blood pressure is confirmed by measuring a person’s blood pressure with the use of the sphygmomanometer. Once confirmed, medication can be given and the symptoms can disappear. Oftentimes, maintenance medication is prescribed to keep blood pressure normal.
If symptoms are easily identifiable, high blood pressure causes can be difficult to identify. It could be due to kidney disease or ischemia. Hyperthyroidism can also be a cause; so is inactivity. Some are caused by metabolic syndrome. All of these can cause pressure on the walls of the arteries as blood is pumped through the circulatory system.
