Freeing the mind of worries and negative thoughts is one way to feel better and recharged. This is a simple and helpful activity that anyone can do wherever, whenever and however he or she wishes.
Meditation is universal, and there are many meditation techniques to try and enjoy. Mantra, Trataka, Chakra, Vipassana, Raj Yoga, Zazen and Nada Yoga are a few of the common methods of meditation that successfully provide relaxation and release from stress. Trataka, also called Yogic or Steady Gaze, is a straightforward technique that is delightful in its simplicity. It entails staring fixedly at an object, such as a lighted candle, which is set at eye level and an arm’s length away. The body should be relaxed, with the person taking long and deep breaths while steady gazing. After a while, the meditation is done with eyes closed and only the after image of the flame is stared at. The process of gazing with open and closed eyes is done alternately two or more times before ending the session. Other objects may also be used for Yogic Gazing. If using a candle for Trataka, however, make sure to stare at the wick tip and not at the flame when meditating.
