The extracellular matrix and collagen is the structural framework for animal tissues. They play a critical role in wound healing. They are the most common cells of connective tissue in animals. A fibroblast is a type of cell that produces that extracellular matrix and collagen. We need these fibroblasts to be healthy so that our injuries and wounds would heal faster and smoothly.
Fibroblasts and fibrocytes are two states of the same cells. Fibroblast is the active state while fibrocycte is the less active state concerned with maintenance. Both forms are commonly known and called fibroblasts. The suffix “blast” is used in cellular biology to denote a stem cell or a cell in an activated state of metabolism. Fibroblasts make collagens, glycosaminoglycans, reticular and elastic fibers, and glycoproteins found in the extracellular matrix.
