When we talk of cholesterol we are most often referring to bad cholesterol. This is the kind that we get from eating unhealthy foods. High cholesterol levels in the blood can raise the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. The extra cholesterol is stored in the arteries which cause them to narrow and harden. Large deposits can completely block an artery.
Avoiding this condition should start from childhood. The kind of food that you eat will be a big factor. Make sure that there are plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grain and fish in your daily diet. Avoid saturated trans fat. Exercising regularly and not smoking will be a big help. You should also have your cholesterol level checked from time to time.
