Increase in glucose levels, persistent thirst, and excessive urine discharge are few of the many symptoms of diabetes. They are known to be caused by genetics and other environmental factors such as overweight and a sedentary lifestyle. It may be a non-reversible disease but can always be controlled. The best way to do so is through diabetes self management.
The first and most difficult part of diabetes self management is the daily administration of insulin. This is the reason why insulin pumps and battery operated pumps have gained so much popularity among those who suffer from this disease. It is important for them to monitor glucose level through monitoring by the use of glucometer. Regulating food intake is also a key factor for them in maintaining weight thus controlling diabetes. Lastly, patients are advised to do regular light exercises to keep cholesterol levels low, blood pressure normal and cardiovascular system healthy.
