I’m a triathlete. Like all triathletes, I train almost daily all year round. To prevent getting burnt out or over training, I pay close attention to my training zones. I use a heart rate monitor to monitor stresses to my heart. Now incorporate that with a computer program that charts your progress daily and you’ll know exactly how hard you need to work out. That’s why I love my heart rate monitor.
A heart rate monitor literally monitors your heartbeat. There are different kinds of heart rate monitors in the market today. There are heart rate monitors that take a reading every second and there are those that take readings every 5 or ten seconds. Heart rate monitors that take readings every second are best but you tend to overload the memory capacity. These are only good for short workouts. My HR monitor I’ve set at 5 seconds. This allows me to record my activity for approximately 12 to 13 hours. That’s about how fast I finish an Ironman event.
