Helping a Heart Attack Victim

An AED or Automatic External Defibrillator can dramatically increase the survival rate of people who suffer from sudden cardiac arrest if used in the first 3-5 minutes after the patient collapses. An AED automatically determines the heart rhythm of a pulse-less victim and may shock the victim’s heart to try and restore its rhythm to normal.
If you’re using an AED to rescue someone, make sure that the adhesive AED pads are attached to a cable which is plugged into the machine. Place the AED pads in the appropriate areas of the victim’s bare chest. Consult the diagram on the AED as it indicates where each pad goes. Remember to always follow the instructions on the AED before turning it on.
