Home defibrillators

Even with an efficient 911 system, only 6 to10% of cardiac arrest patients who need to be administered with shock are saved by typical emergency services. They can rarely get to the patient within the 6 minute window for saving a cardiac arrest patient. The chances of survival is said to be three times greater with home defibrillators. That is the reason for the growing visibility of AEDs in public places including schools, government offices and other places where there is a mass of people. Considering statistics showing high incidence of cardiac arrest in homes, it will be a good idea to have AEDs at home.
Home defibrillators will be beneficial to people who are prone to having a sudden cardiac arrest. Those who have survived a previous cardiac arrest will find an AED at home a good investment. Other heart disease patients suffering from severe heart failure or angina will also benefit from a home defibrillator. But owning one is not enough. Training members of the household to use it properly is critical.
