Maximize your training and performance. Athletes should know that in sports nutrition, when you eat is just as important as what you eat. This pertains to the timing of the intake of key nutrients that helps convert your physical activities into a fitter and stronger you. For example, eating a small, protein-rich meal before doing strength training will give you the building blocks for protein synthesis.
Conversely, eating foods rich in carbohydrates will help speed up the recovery processes of refueling, repair and adaptation after a workout. The reason for this is that in the first 30 minutes after exercise, the body is starving for carbs and is biochemically more active in storing available carbohydrate. So during the post-exercise window, the body should be given the carbohydrates it needs.
