Catnip, also called catmint, is a part of the mint family. These herbs are more commonly associated with cats, as it makes them act somewhat crazy. Aside from cats, catnip can also have medicinal effects on humans. Dried herbs are added to a cup of tea and drinking it before going to bed can help you relax, as well as address chest congestions.
There are other benefits of catnip aside from being a decongestant. It can help relieve headaches that are caused by extreme stress. It is most commonly used to relieve anxiety, insomnia and nervousness. Catnip has also been historically used to treat stomach complaints like cramps and indigestion. Applied topically, it can reduce swelling due to arthritis, hemorrhoids, and soft tissue injuries.
