Differences Between Handcrafted and Commercial Soaps

There is a big difference between handcrafted and commercial soaps. It lies in the contents as well as how they are processed. The major difference is the presence of glycerin in handcrafted soap which commercial soap manufacturers conveniently eliminate in their manufacturing process. Glycerin is desirable for its moisturizing properties. It is a natural byproduct in the saponification procedure used in the manufacture of handcrafted soap.
Another difference is in the fragrances that are used. Handmade soaps generally use fragrances obtained from herbal plants and trees. Natural essential oils are extracted from parts of these plants such as leaves and flowers. Because they are natural herbs, not only do they provide fragrance they also have curative powers. It is not uncommon for handmade soaps to be effective in skin disorders including acne, eczema and psoriasis.
