Soap is created by mixing lye and water with fats or oil. When oil is combined with lye, a new substance is formed. This solution is then poured into molds where it will remain until it hardens and is ready to use. Lye soap does more than just clean. It also helps sooth and lubricate the skin.
Other characteristics of lye soap:
~It is gentle on skin.
~It has a creaminess that is not easily found in commercial soaps.
~It can be used to clean just about anything like getting off engine grease off your hands.
~It can outlast its commercial counterparts when made with certain ingredients.
