Stress is the body’s response to unusual happenings. In small doses it provides a challenge that makes the body react in a positive way. It helps a person to stay focused, energetic and alert. It also prods the person to meet challenges. At some point, though, stress stops being a positive force. It overwhelms the person causing major damage to health, productivity and quality of life.
Causes of stress will vary from person to person. What one person finds stressful may not be for others. As a general rule, anything that puts a high demand on a person that forces him to make adjustments can be considered stressors or stress causes. Examples of stress causes are major life changes, work, relationship difficulties, financial problems and being overly busy. Some people have personalities that are easily stressed. They are always looking at the negative side of things and stress over problems that are just possibilities and have not actually happened. These people have to learn how to relieve stress.
