One Reason for Overeating

This protein hormone plays a key role in regulating energy intake and outflow. It regulates appetite and metabolism. Leptin is one of the most important adipose derived hormones. Fat cells produce the hormone leptin. Leptin communicates directly to your brain, telling the brain how much fat is in storage. It controls appetite, energy, and metabolic rate. Leptin problems are the primary reason for food cravings, overeating, faulty metabolism, the obsession with food, and heart disease.
Studies are being conducted to prove that Leptin may suppress appetite and result in decreased food intake and weight loss. Hugely obese children have been found who have an inability to lose weight due to a genetic inability to produce leptin. Injections of leptin have had dramatic weight loss effects. It appears that, if one cannot make leptin, the brain thinks there is no fat and spurs the person on to eat more and more in a futile effort to get the leptin signal that fat is present. This could be the answer to the problems of obese people who have tried everything but cannot hit the right solution.
