Our bodies require vitamins in small amounts and we get these from food and drinks. Certain vitamins are also produced within our bodies. Vitamins can be fat- or water-soluble. Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat-soluble while Vitamin C and the B vitamins are water-soluble.
The B-complex vitamin group includes thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), cyanocobalamin (B12), folic acid and biotin. These vitamins are needed for the breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose which provides energy for the body; the breakdown of fats and proteins which help in the normal functioning of the nervous system; toning muscle in the stomach and intestinal tract and helps maintain the health of skin, hair, eyes, mouth and liver.
