Much of the world today is going through a recession. This recession has resulted in anxiety, uncertainness, confusion, and in some cases depression. More and more individuals have tried taking an anti-depressant hoping to lift themselves out of misery. An anti-depressant drugs usually prescribed by a physician or psychiatrist to help alleviate symptoms of depression. These drugs work by targeting certain aspects of the brain that cause bouts of depression.
The use and sometimes abuse of anti-depressants has been the subject of much debate. Just as there are several types and causes of depression, there are equally as much ways to treat it. Entertainment and tabloids have amplified the abuse of anti-depressants. A few years ago Tom Cruise and Brooke Shields were at odds over Shields’ use of anti-depressants to treat her post-partum depression. Today, the dispute continues, but most therapists and medical practitioners agree that anti-depressants may not always be the cure, exercise, other activities, therapy, and social activities could work as well.
