There are various vitamins needed by the body to maintain good health. One of these is Vitamin D or what many call the sunshine vitamin as exposure to sunlight will convert a form of cholesterol under the skin into Vitamin D. This nutrient has myriad health benefits that range from improving bone health to boosting the immune system. However, getting adequate amounts may require supplementation.
Vitamin D is best known for its role in the absorption of calcium, phosphorous and magnesium which promotes bone health. People who have Vitamin D deficiency are not able to absorb enough calcium to meet the body’s need for this critical mineral. Vitamin D taken orally is also known to prevent corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis and osteopenia.
